This comes straight from the ground floor of BlizzCon '08 - Blizzard's annual epic gaming lovefest. There has been some interesting discussion on the class panel this year, mainly because they have decided to make some much-needed overhauls to all the classes and the way they play. They won't be redoing any talent trees, but they will be adding and reworking many talents and abilities to make them relevant AND place the emphasis on player skill, rather than class - a "return to fun" is the way one dev put it. So, instead of players being chosen for their class/spec, they will be chosen for their skill. Also, it looks like my poison, the shadow priest, will be getting some much needed love! Their DPS cap was removed and they will be focused on a viable raid dps class/spec instead of just being a mana battery. Maybe I will start playing again... Anyhow, lots of other good stuff for your class of choice - head on over and check it out! Additionally, for more BlizzCon '08 coverage, head over to VoodooExtreme! |

About 30 minutes ago, AMD released a new gaming-centered tool called Fusion which sets game processes to highest priority and disables lots of unnecessary services and other processes while in a game.
For those of you that followed Vista while it was still known as Longhorn might remember that this type of functionality was supposed to have been built-in to Vista from the start. Longhorn was supposed to cache it's state and everything in RAM to the hard drive and go into "sleep mode" when a game is executed to free the hardware completely for the game. This isn't quite like that, but it's certainly closer to that than what Vista is currently like. I'm going to give it a whirl tonight when I get home. I literally JUST switched to Vista Ultimate on Tuesday night and am currently liking it; however, I think I'm going to have to reinstall all of my games because they don't seem to be working after my clean install (formatted my OS drive, which had XP SP3 on it). Also, if anyone has been wondering where I've been, I've been totally consumed by the awesomeness that is Spore. IT LEAVES FEEDBACK OR IT GETS THE HOSE AGAIN! |

Ars technica has an excellent interview up with Tim Sweeney, the man behind all the iterations of the Unreal Engine, about the Intel's Larrabee, competition between Nvidia and Intel, and where the future of 3D is going. It's not terribly technical (very little technical material, however, there are some terms that some may not recognize), but it is a very detailed, insightful, and (most importantly) exciting look at where the industry is heading. Here's a snippet:

Blizzard announced today that they will allow Paid Character Transfers from PvE servers to PvP servers - functionality that has been asked for by players for a very long time (along with the ability to transfer to other servers, which came into effect about 18 months ago). Looks like Blizzard is trying to lure players back who have abandoned WoW before WotLK launches. As usual, Blizzard is way late on implementation. Long live WAR? |

The recently renamed F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is the true sequel to 2005's highly successful (and very good) first-person shooter/horror F.E.A.R. has a new trailer which should be pretty exciting. Check it out in HD over at VoodooExtreme. Alma looks pissed... |

| Spore, Will Wrights next big game (that's finally NOT a Sims game), will hit stores on Sunday in the States. Interestingly enough, publisher Electronic Arts decided that it was a good idea to release it in the US last - an American games comes out in America last, call me crazy, but I don't get it. Non-issues aside, apparently, Gamestar.de was less than impressed by this jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none game, however, they ere highly impressed by the editors that allow you to create creatures, units, and various other things. Do you plan on picking up Spore? I think we will - I'll let everyone know what I think of it. | ||||

| For the past few days the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX to those of you in the know) zerged the Seattle Convention Center with games, comics, and everything nice. Reportedly 60,000 of our northwestern brethren showed up to partake in the festivities - what some are calling the new E3. Everything that was worth seeing was there - with many playable demos - and right there in the thick of the action is VoodooExtreme. Check out their PAX 2008 Finale Preview to get their take on what was teh shiznit of the show. Lots of really good-looking upcoming games - I think my wallet is going to be hurtin' sometime soon. | ||||

That's right, folks! EA is actually offering FREE GAMES - though, you do have to pre-order RA3 to get RA2. I have some very, very fond memories playing the original Red Alert with my friends. That would be an excellent games for some of us to get together with and play. SO much fun! Anyhow, here is the press release followed by download mirrors:
Red Alert Download Mirrors: *Allied Disc *Soviet Disc NOTE: Those are the North American mirrors, if you live in Europe and want to use the European Mirror, go here. Additionally, be careful using virtual drives, as these might prevent Red Alert 3 from installing due to the massive amounts of DRM EA plans to include. |

I just want to remind everyone that NVISION 08 - the huge multimedia LAN event being hosted by Nvidia August 25-27 - is coming!! The early-bird price has just been extended to August 15, 2008 so you still have a chance to pick up tickets for $30! This is going to be a THREE DAY LAN, but you don't have to show up right away or stay for the whole thing, though I would suggest it. Right now it looks like only myself, my girlfriend, and Knobcone are going to be attending, but there is still room for more! It would be really great if we could get a real presence together. I've gone to a few of these in the past and they always prove to be completely worth the money - $30 is actually a steal for the amount of fun these are. If you're interested, head on over to the NVISION 08 page and register for a BYOC seat! We're considering doing the Guiness Book of World Records attempt at longest running LAN ever, but we're not sure if we can make it 72 hours of non-stop gaming. If you're interested, contact me ASAP so we can work stuff out! For all of you guys that won't be able to join us, we will be taking lots of pictures at the event, baring something that stops us from being able to go. I'll be posting them in the forums! Again, if you want to go CONTACT ME ASAP or post a reply in the official thread! |
